この日、イスタンブールへの入港は午後4時。
前日にサントリーニを出港した船は、イスタンブールに向かう途中、ダーダネルス海峡を渡る。
ダーダネルス海峡は地中海につながるエーゲ海と、黒海につながるマルマラ海を結ぶ海峡。
ボスポラス海峡とともにヨーロッパとアジアの境界となる海峡
船は朝7:00〜8:00にこの海峡を渡るとのことで、この時特別にオープンされていた船首に向かう。
ちょっと寝坊してしまい、ダーダネルス海峡についての案内のアナウンスを聞き逃してしまったが、朝陽を浴びながらアジアとヨーロッパの境界線のクルーズをしばしお楽しみ。
ダーダネルスの語源は古代ギリシャの伝説の王ダルダノスに由来しているという。海峡の長さは約60キロ、幅は1.2〜6キロほど。水深は最大103メートル、平均55メートル。表面層水はマルマラ海からエーゲ海へ、底層水は逆方向に流れている。
さていよいよ、ヨーロッパとアジアの文化が融合した、アジアの終点、ヨーロッパの始点であるイスタンブール！
Single Meetで出会い、オリンピアのツアーで一緒になったUSペギーは、今回のイスタンブール訪問が初めてのアジアと興奮して話していたが、日本人の私にとって「トルコ＝アジア」というのにはイマイチぴんとこない。
だからと言ってトルコがヨーロッパかというとそれも微妙ではあるのだけど・・・
イスタンブールは初めての私。
さて、イスタンブールにアジアを感じるか、それともヨーロッパと感じるかじっくり観察してみよう。
